Still Life Company

Having trained in drama in Belgium, Sophie Linsmaux and Aurelio Mergola of the Still Life Company met during a European training course, whose title would inspire their joint project “The Journey of Gesture”. Since 2011, with the Still Life Company, they have sought to develop a collective stage language where their wordless theatre portrays and interrogates the world through contemporary fables.

Things are going horribly wrong; humanity is in danger: what sense can we make of the situations and actions into which we throw ourselves with unconditional and unconscious conviction? Through their sharp eyes, the bodies and nerves of actors and spectators are challenged. Among other things, their collaboration has resulted in the shows Où les hommes mourraient encore (2011), Keep going (2014), Still Life (2016), Frozen (2017), View (2018), No One (created in 2019 at Théâtre Les Tanneurs) and Flesh (created in 2022 at Théâtre Les Tanneurs and presented at the Avignon Festival 2022). Since July 2019, Sophie Linsmaux and Aurelio Mergola are associate artists at Théâtre Les Tanneurs.
