Geneviève Damas

Geneviève Damas is an associate author at the Théâtre Les Tanneurs since July 2019. As part of her residency, she wrote several texts, including a section of her novel Jacky; she also regularly runs writing and acting workshops ( particularly for women from the neighbourhood) and performs on stage.

After graduating in Law, Geneviève Damas trained as an actress at the IAD, and then turned to different theatre disciplines. As an actress, she honed her skills with John Link in London and Christian Rist in Paris, and then performed under the direction of Valérie Cordy, Christian Crahay, Frédéric Haëtty, Laure Delcampe, Pietro Pizzuti, Janine Godinas, Pierre Laroche, Ariane Buhbinder, Vincent Raoult, Mohamed Bari, among others… Following her work with numerous directors, she directed Le Retour au Désert by Bernard-Marie Koltès, Déclownestration by Francis Monty and La Robe de Gulnara by Isabelle Hubert. She then turned to opera with Dido and Aeneas and to young audiences: Qui se cache? by Les Zerkiens, La fée au cerf-volant, Cajou by Patrick Lerch and Jules et Zou. In 1998, she founded the Compagnie Albertine.

As an author, she wrote some fifteen plays – several published by Éditions Lansman – a collection of short stories and several novels. She has received several awards, including the Prix Victor Rossel 2011 for her novel Si tu passes la rivière. Her last three books (Patricia, Bluebird and Jacky) were published by Gallimard. Her next novel Strange will be published in September 2023 by Grasset editions.

Since 1999, she has been hosting the “Portées-Portraits” literary and musical events, which showcase the works of contemporary writers.
